ABOUT US

Introducing the AHKC (Advanced HIO Knee-Chest) Technique— a revolutionary breakthrough in upper cervical chiropractic care that sets a new standard for precision, safety, and effectiveness! Unlike traditional knee-chest methods, the AHKC Technique combines cutting-edge technology with meticulous analysis and controlled tensioning to deliver consistently exceptional results worldwide.
Imagine a technique so refined, so sophisticated, that it redefined what’s possible in upper cervical care. The AHKC Technique harnesses the power of advanced imaging, precise measurements, and gentle, controlled adjustments — all designed to optimize brain stem health and enhance patient outcomes.
Why is the AHKC Technique a Game-Changer?
**Unmatched Precision & Reproducibility:**
Using detailed imaging and taking in consideration, the three directional Vertebral Subluxation we take the necessary Lateral Cervical X-ray view, AP open-mouth view and Base Posterior view, and/ or CBCT scans (where Chiropractic licensure allows), the AHKC protocol pinpoints critical anatomical landmarks, including the foramen magnum and the junction where the posterior arch meets the lateral mass.
The AP open-mouth (APOM) view is focusing on the foramen magnum and the points where the posterior arch meets the lateral mass, as well as the assessment of compensations that determine the S-angle and the positioning on the S-angle table. This will include but limited to, the Upper "S" Angle (USA) and the Lower "S" Angle (LSA) in relationship to side slip of the Atlas.  This thorough analysis directs every adjustment, ensuring consistency across doctors and clinics. Using the lateral cervical, APOM and the base posterior as a patient-specific reference point, the analysis is performed from this view and then entered into the AHKC calculator, which provides the crucial S-Angle. This angle is essential for delivering superior, precise adjustments each and every time.
What sets us apart from other upper cervical knee-chest techniques is our focus on precise analysis and accuracy. Unlike traditional methods that often rely on aggressive adjustments, animated torque or speed, our approach emphasizes gentle, targeted corrections guided by exact measurements. This ensures a safer and more comfortable experience for the patient, while still delivering effective results. Plus, it requires less mental and physical effort from the doctor, as everything is calculated with just the push of a button.
**Innovative Role of the Base Posterior View:**
This unique perspective helps determine the **stance angle** of the practitioner during the rotation phase of addressing the misalignment, promoting optimal ergonomics and precision. By preserving the patient’s positional integrity throughout the analysis, the AHKC Technique ensures accurate, personalized adjustments every time. It also reduces the need for excessive torque adjustments to maintain contact with the Atlas, allowing for a more smooth and effective delivery of the adjustment. The shape and size of the doctor are taken into account, along with the vertebral rotation, to determine the ideal stance for delivering the adjustment, ensuring the Innate intelligence receives it in the most effective way.
**Controlled Tensioning Over Force:**
At the heart of AHKC is a focus on **patient relaxation** through controlled tensioning; not speed or force.  Really the vectors are calculated.  So calculated that once the listing is established just getting the patient set up on the Simmons Angle Table the vertebrate sets with no to little impulse. By gently guiding the patient into a relaxed state on the tailored Simmons angle table head piece with the perfect design for stabilization of the head and mastoid allowing the atlas to be free to move. AHKC Chiropractors can perform **minimal yet highly effective adjustments**. Utilizing tissue pull as an advantage, all this combined reduces tissue trauma or disturbance, enhances comfort, and ensures a smooth, predictable outcome Controlled, targeted minimal impulse is applied during the Advanced HIO Knee-Chest adjustment restoring proper alignment effectively, facilitating healing and recovery.
Refined Pattern Detection:** Utilizes **Tytron assessments and we do a functional neuro-thermographic exam during our pre-adjustment before introducing an adjustment to support pattern confirmation.
The functional neurothermographs are performed both before and after each adjustment. The pre-adjustment scan helps determine whether the patient needs an adjustment, as the body’s inability to adapt creates a unique pattern for each individual. This pattern indicates that the patient is not able to heal, change, or adapt effectively in that state, signaling the need for an adjustment. The post-adjustment scan is measured in three consistent ways across all offices and providers, allowing for clear communication about the patient’s progress. This consistency helps us better understand the specific results of each adjustment and serves as a valuable learning tool for the patient. It also introduces an engaging aspect by providing the patient with insight into the effects of their visit and the effectiveness of the adjustment performed. This offers reassurance, helping them feel confident that their body can now begin the healing process.

The Future of Upper Cervical Care is Here
The AHKC Technique embodies the perfect blend of philosophy, art and science— meticulous imaging, patient-centered tensioning, and standardized protocols that deliver **reliable, reproducible results worldwide**. With a focus on safety, precision, and patient relaxation, this innovative approach marks a new era in knee-chest chiropractic care. It transforms the way we address brain stem health and spinal compensations. Ultimately reducing the subluxation, not only targeting cervical compensations but also supporting the entire nervous system, spinal structure, and all bodily systems. Even though the new chest world has been around since the intervention of knee chest chiropractic by BJ Palmer of Palmer College Chiropractic of Davenport, Iowa in 1930’s
A Legacy of Innovation
Why the S Angle Was Developed**
The Simmons angle table was the start to a significant milestone in the development and advancement of the knee chest adjustment becoming AHKC the original developer of the S-Angle and represented just the beginning of AHKC’s advancements. Dr. Simmons of Midland, Michigan, recognized a pressing need for more precise and consistent chiropractic adjustments. His insights began with the over 300,000 adjustments performed at his office and then at his home adjusting table with his family where he observed notable differences in outcomes depending on the angle used.
As he instructed his associate doctors on how to adjust the next patient, he found himself adding these little tidbits of insight he had gained from firsthand experience with a specific patient. These subtle clues—based on adjusting that patient using a particular Listing, angle, and body type—began to influence his guidance. Through this process, he realized that the traditional analysis, the Listing, the table, and the stance of the doctor all needed to be innovated and refined. These small, experiential insights highlighted the need for a new approach, leading him to see that a more nuanced and adaptable method was necessary for achieving consistent, effective results. All of these insights and refinements ultimately led to the discovery of the AHKC.
The AHKC protocol has fundamentally transformed the chiropractic profession, elevating standards of precision, consistency, and effectiveness across the entire field.
A Note on the Technique’s History
This protocol is based on the teachings of Dr. BJ Palmer the Developer of Chiropractic.  B.J. Palmer, son of the Chiropractic founder D.D. Palmer, is known as the "Developer" of Chiropractic, particularly for his work on refining and promoting the concept of the chiropractic vertebral subluxation. He significantly expanded on his father's initial ideas, focusing on the upper cervical spine and developing specific techniques and instrumentation for detecting and correcting these subluxations specifically the **lateral cervical view** technique and line analysis that is used in the AHKC protocol was taught by Dr. Michael Kale.   Dr. Kale was a mentor to Dr. Steven B Simmons who credited him for carrying forward the Knee chest-based adjustment method. Dr. Kale's mentorship allowed Dr. Steven Simmons to further develop the knee chest adjustment into today’s advanced methods, advanced HIO knee chest incorporating modern imaging analysis and precise adjustments to continue the legacy of safe, effective knee chest upper cervical care.

OUR MISSION

Advanced HIO Knee Chest was founded in 2019 by Dr. Steven B. Simmons a 1999 Palmer College of Chiropractic graduate.  While a student at Palmer his classmates voted him, "Most likely to build a Shrine to BJ Palmer".  After two decades of private practice he has developed very unique features that have advanced the knee chest adjustment.  Today, we truly are bringing a "new angle" to the knee chest adjustment.  Our mission is to help more Chiropractors grow their offices, see as many patients as humanly possible and experience the knee chest adjustment.
